Just like people are unique, therapists all work a bit differently. Why choose me?
About Me:
My path to becoming a therapist has been a winding road. Who knew exactly what they wanted to do when they were 18?!
Some people. Not me. As an undergraduate, I studied art and French - mostly just because I enjoyed all that. I lived in France and ate pain au chocolat to my heart's content! I then worked in corporate and nonprofit settings but still longed to do work I found more meaningful. I did some volunteer work in NYC which led me to pursue my Masters Degree in Clinical Social Work from New York University (NYU) . After NYU, I chose to do four more years of extensive clinical training at Metropolitan Institute for Training in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (MITPP). This specialized clinical training enables therapists to have a better idea of what to actually do in the room. Many therapists have a degree and a license, but few get this kind of training.
My commitment to ongoing learning is essential in my efforts to understand how to best approach life’s complexities with the utmost integrity. I am continually educating myself from the best resources our field has to offer. In addition to my already extensive training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy, I am also training to be a health coach! The exciting new fields of lifestyle and functional medicine align with my values by seeking to treat the cause and not just the symptoms. My aim is to assist clients with their overall wellness, as our struggles with physical health are often tied to emotional wellbeing.
I am currently a Faculty Member of MITPP and a Board Member of Metropolitan Society of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapists (MSPP).
Treatment Style:
Cultivating self-awareness helps you manage the inevitable difficulties of life and relate better to others. I make every effort to convey warmth and caring while assisting you on your journey to knowing yourself better and becoming the best version of yourself. I practice psychodynamic psychotherapy, which means that I attend to the dynamic interplay between conscious and unconscious factors that make up your personality. This just means that I believe in treating the cause - not only the symptom(s). You do your best to say whatever comes to mind and I do the rest!
First and foremost, I value compassion for all living beings, and I would never ask someone to be something they are not. I enjoy work in the areas of depression, anxiety, identity or stage-of-life issues, illness, loss, difficulty trusting your decisions, fluctuating self-esteem, career, and relationship struggles (with family, friends, or significant others). In addition to being a general practitioner, I also offer specialized treatment to the LGBTQIA+ community and pet bereavement services. Pets are part of our families and should be treated as such.
Clients from the LGBTQAI+ community often face unique challenges. Maybe you are seeking a therapist with whom you can feel at ease while discussing matters not necessarily related to your sexuality or gender; or, perhaps you are working on issues such as finding an identity/sense of self, negotiating what that means with family, friends, and work colleagues, or want assistance defining the type of relationship or identity you wish to pursue.
You are taking an important first step by investing in yourself with therapy. Let’s understand your experiences better and work toward developing happiness. Life is best lived to its full potential.
An initial consultation is the best way to get a sense of me, how I work, and if you’d like to continue. You can contact me directly to make an appointment. I'm best reached via email: [email protected]
